Interview By: Ginger Coyote

I just knew I was meeting a very special person when Poizen Ivy Hover introduced me to the fabulous Warholboy at The Dive Bar in Las Vegas! We shared a friend in common (besides the Las Vegas crew) and that was the legendary Jayne County... So you know we hit it off immediately and raised some hell that night! Warholboy and I remained close and have been seeing alot because of his work with Cindy Wilson and The B-52's..... Enjoy this interview and remember WARHOLBOY RULES!!!!

DJ Diablo Roja, Simon Le Bon and Warholboy

PUNK GLOBE:
Thank you so much for the interview my sweet Warholboy. Tell the readers sone back ground on yourself?

Warholboy:
Thank you for inviting me to share a little about myself with the Punk Globe readers. Warholboy is my nickname/club kid name/dj name... I'm also known as D.A.Sims... Derek...lil D.... and just plain "D" to my close friends!

PUNK GLOBE:
Are any members your family involved in the industry?

Warholboy:
Just me!

PUNK GLOBE:
We first met in Las Vegas when The White Trash Debutantes played The Dive Bar..... What do you remember from that night?

Warholboy:
I remember having one of the best nights of my life that night!! Dive Bar was an amazing place to work. I got to see three to four bands almost every night! But nothing could top The White Trash Debutantes show! I still have the CD you autographed!!

Warholboy

PUNK GLOBE:
You have done a lot of theater, television and movie work. You first started out in theater right? Was it behind the scenes or being on stage?

Warholboy:
Yes, I began working in theater as a child. It is still my first love. As a kid I attended yearly summer theater workshops where we were trained in everything from leading roles to vacuuming the floor. I loved to be in front of an audience, but also discovered I was an excellent propmaster! ( I love to shop) and scenic artist. I went on to study theater and art in University. Playhouse on the Square in Memphis,Tennessee offered me my first internship, and the rest is history!

PUNK GLOBE:
What came along next was it television or film?

Warholboy:
I took a break from theater around 1998, and dove headfirst into the world of nightlife. I worked at several clubs bars and restaurants. I could fill a novel with stories from those times. Film and TV didn't come calling until around 2007, when Georgia began giving out huge tax breaks to the film industry. Extras Casting hired me to help cast background artists, and in turn I was able to find my way into a scene here and there.

Warholboy

PUNK GLOBE:
You've worked on many TV shows and films... Give us details D!

Warholboy:
I worked a number of years casting extras for film and tv, and ended up in front of the cameras. There were so many! Tyler Perry used me a number of times in his films, and I've appeared a few times on all his TV series. I worked on the pilot for The Following, with Kevin Bacon. I worked in stunts and was a precision driver on Detroit 187. I've played numerous dead bodies on The Walking Dead, and Most recently I worked on the Jason Moma /Lisa Bonet series called Red Road, and on the pilot for Devious Maids! My biggest dream come true was spending a day on the set working opposite Betty White!! I love working on TV.

PUNK GLOBE:
Tell us some of the films you have appeared in?

Warholboy:
Some highlighted films include The Blindside, Solace, Sabotage, A Madea Christmas, For Colored Girls, The Watsons Go To Birmingham, The Three Stooges, Scary Movie 5, The Collection, Trouble With the Curve, Due Date, Dumb and Dumber Too, Hall Pass, Jane Mansfields Car...many more.

PUNK GLOBE:
Which films did you enjoy working on the most?

Warholboy:
Well, they are all like children. Its hard to pick a favorite. Being on set with Clint Eastwood during the filming of Trouble With the Curve was magical. The Blindside was a lot of fun. Sandra Bullock tells the best dirty jokes!

PUNK GLOBE:
I bet Sandra met her match with Melissa McCarthy in The Heat! I know that alot of film production in Georgia was going to be halted because of bigotry to the GLBTQ community through the religious freedom bill. Has that been resolved?

Warholboy:
YES!! The governor of Georgia did the right thing vetoing such an asinine bill. North Carolina has lost all filming due to the narrow minds running things there, and many other companies are pulling their business from that state. Now Mississippi and Tennessee have passed similar bills. I hope all the big businesses leave both those states. Passing and supporting laws that promote discrimination doesn't make a person a better christian...it just makes them an asshole...

Simon Le Bon and Warholboy

PUNK GLOBE:
Bruce Springsteen and Bryan Adams have both canceled concerts because of the hate law. When did you discover your love of music?

Warholboy:
At birth!! My mom brought me home from the hospital, put me in the crib, and put on Carol Kings Tapestry album! I haven't turned off the music since!! I have an ever growing record collection. I'm a HUGE Duran Duran fan. Ive seen them live 44 times, and will be seeing them for the 45th this weekend!!

PUNK GLOBE:
Tell us about your first musical endeavor?

Warholboy:
I began singing at a super early age. We have recordings of me singing along to Sesame Street before I was speaking in full sentences. Ive sang or performed in some way all my life! Most recently I played theramin and recorded some backing vocals on Cindy Wilsons upcoming solo album!

Donna Hall Foster, DA Sims and Cindy Wilson

PUNK GLOBE:
Do you play any instruments?

Warholboy:
Play/have played piano, synthesizer, sax, violin, and theramin my favorite instrument.

PUNK GLOBE:
Tell us about your first band?

Warholboy:
We were called Teatime Technology, a lyric taken from the Blondie song Rapture! We were a small synth based garage band, who never actually made it out of the garage!

Warholboy

PUNK GLOBE:
Tell us about the band that you played in with Anne Marie Perry that Cyndi Ford reviewed you for in Punk Globe?

Warholboy:
Anne Marie is a dear friend and one of the coolest female rockers out there. She invited me to gig with her and the guys a number of times. We bonded over our mutual love of Chrissie Hynde. We knock out some killer harmonies when we cover Talk of the Town!

Ola Moon

PUNK GLOBE:
You also have a band with Cindy Wilson.... Tell the readers about that?

Warholboy:
Yes! Talk about a dream come true! Cindy invited me to be a member of her Athens based Supergroup Ola Moon! Its an honor to share the stage with many of Athens finest musicians! We have done several shows over the last few years, when the Bs weren't out touring.

PUNK GLOBE:
Tell us how you began working with Cindy and The B 52's?

Warholboy:
I've been friends with Cindy her husband and kids for a number of years. They are like a second family to me. I got a phone call the week of Christmas 2014 late one night. It was Cindy calling to tell me that The B52s would be going back out on the road starting in January 2015. She asked if I would like to come work her tour assistant. How could I say no!!?? We've been back out touring non stop since! I adore Cindy, and love helping her come up with new looks for the stage!

Ola Moon

PUNK GLOBE:
Tell us about some of your most enjoyable times working with The B-52's?

Warholboy:
Every night is a enjoyable and a party!! The three sell out nights at Hollywood Bowl with The Psychedelic Furs and the L.A. Symphony last fall will be hard to beat. Irving Plaza was crazy fun. There's nothing better than a New York crowd!

PUNK GLOBE:
I know that The Floydian Device and Ms. Ligaya would like to come to the show in Seattle in July. They would like to interview you and Cindy for the Ginger Coyote Roc Doc beyond what you are filming in Georgia with Cyndi Ford..

Warholboy:
That would be a blast! I'm so thrilled to get to be a part of it all! If anyone deserves a documentary its YOU Ginger Coyote!!

PUNK GLOBE:
Hopefully it will make people laugh!! Do you have any plans to travel abroad this year?

Warholboy:
None so far..but have passport/will travel!

Ola Moon

PUNK GLOBE:
You recently moved into a new home and have quite the green thumb when it comes to gardening. Tell us your secrets?

Warholboy:
Yes, I moved about two years ago to a small farm north of Athens GA! I live in a hundred year old greenhouse that's been converted into live/work artist space. Punk rock riot girl Stella Zine from the band Pagan Holiday is my neighbor, and lives in the main house. There are chickens ,dogs and 8 goats!! I had an amazing great grandmother who ran a working farm! My grandmother, and mother have beautiful gardens. Its in my genes. My best gardening secret is use BlackCow brand manure!!

PUNK GLOBE:
Thanks for that tip D! What is in store for the rest of 2016?

Warholboy:
The B's are booked with gigs through September 2016 already, so I will be on the road with Cindy. In my off time I am doing some writing for my first solo project! I also keep busy in my art studio. I recycle old books, magazines, any sort of printed media into my obsession with collage. I'm constantly cutting and pasting!

Warholboy & Babydoll Schultz

PUNK GLOBE:
Do you have any Internet addresses you would like to share with the readers?

Warholboy:
For years I went by my dj/nickname Warholboy everywhere online...but since Facebook names police shut down my page under that name, people can now look me up under my stage name : D.A. Sims. My Instagram is @_warholboy_

Warholboy

PUNK GLOBE:

Warholboy:
