Siblings Of Samhain
‘Hyde’
CD Review By: Jools Green

Danny Demented and Savage Monster, hideously drawn together by their love of all things horror, parted company with their former bands to follow their nightmares, the result, with the addition of Billy Butcher, is UK Horror Rockers ‘Siblings Of Samhain’ and their debut full length ‘Hyde’.

The trio, are inspired by the likes of Misfits, Blitzkid, Argyle Goolsby and the Roving Midnight, Nim Vind and Wednesday 13 and there is definitely a Misfits vibe happening within the sound, particularly the fuzzy guitar work, but with a lighter cleaner  angle to  the vocals and lyrics that cover all things horror rich and macabre such as “love, death and the macabre, with personal undertones and metaphors bound within… After all, we all have a Hyde inside.”

‘Hyde’ is a fifteen track, actually fourteen plus a bonus track if you buy hard copy rather than digital,  vocal rich offering that, despite titles suggesting it will bring about the most inhumane of night terrors, is a catchy, easy on the ear offering with an  addictive groove which bounces along , the clean clarity of the delivery of the lyrics and vocal layering is definitely a positive point to the sound with all of the trio contributing  and you will find yourself singing along, I’ve even caught myself singing “...and they call me the Gravedigger Man Woah Oh Woah Oh!”  a few times .  The album also features guest female vocals on ‘Winsome Witch’, supplied by  Jess O Lantern.

The top tracks  for me were the more up tempo ones, particularly those with a bouncing D-beat; ‘Gravestones’, ‘Loculus’,  ‘I Am The Zombie’, the punchy ‘Gravedigger Man’ with its lower, edgier  vocals and bouncy  bass lines  with my favourite being ‘Love at First Bite’ which musically but  not lyrically, as well as  in the way they layer the vocals, something that they do across whole of  the release, has a little bit of an early  Bad Religion, “Suffer  - How much is Enough?”  vibe to it, sending me on a bit of a nostalgia trip.

‘Hyde’ will be self released on 1st October, available at https://siblingsofsamhain.bandcamp.com/   and overall is a pretty decent offering for a first release.
