Rebecca Sevrin and I met up for drinks and a chat recently. Rebecca chose El Coyote one of the oldest Mexican joints in LA as it is near her studio and she's a very busy woman. I didn't want to start off right away asking her about leaving Frightwig but naturally we immediately started right up on Frightwig! Rebecca had to leave the band for business reasons and logistics. Rebecca's business is in LA and Frightwig is based in San Francisco. The trips were becoming time consuming and costly. In Rebecca's business if you say no once that could be the last time you are asked. She has worked really hard to get the kind of clients she has now. Some of her current clients are very heavy hitters. She told me names big names that I promised not to divulge but some are too big not to spill. How do Raquel Welch, Gene Simmons and Julie Newmar hit you?
Rebecca's business is a design business she makes and sells costumes and clothing. Well she does more than that but you can find that out by checking out her website (www.vivarebecca.com). Rebecca's time is limited now as she is always on the run. This is tough for a gal in LA who doesn't drive. She told me she likes to keep busy. "I'm a Hooker!" she told me laughing. "I have two rents to pay my work space and my apartment."
We naturally talked about Frightwig some more. She told me how much she loved being a part of the band and how disappointed she was with having to leave the band. She said she missed playing with them and would love to do a show with them when they are in the LA area. I asked her about the old days when she was first in the band and we laughed about some of the things that had happened. We have a mutual friend Roman Coppola, who was in a band that went on a disaster plagued tour with Frightwig in the 1990's. I told her how I was terrified of Cecilia until I met her. We talked about how kind and sweet Cecilia really is.
We also talked about our mutual love for "RuPaul's Drag Race" and how we are obsessed with the show. We made our predictions for this season's winner and threw some shade on queens that had sashayed away. "Drag Queens taught me how to sew." I learned a lot about style and constructions from them.
Hanging out with Rebecca was a lot of fun and I hope to be able to hang out with her again soon and perhaps have some more laughs and compare notes on the Drag Race.
