Mary Monday
I Gave My Punk Jacket To Rickie Popgun
Review By: Ginger Coyote
Hozac Records has re-released this fun 7" by the late Mary Monday...
Mary migrated to San Francisco from Vancouver, Canada... When I see the movie "Beaches" Bette Midler's character reminds me a bit of Mary..In 1976 Mary formed an all female punk burlesque review which spun off into Mary Monday and Her Bitches.. She soon became a fixture at The Mabuhay Gardens where she met The Street Punks and they decided the time was right to record a couple of their songs with that very special Mary Monday sound that we all loved... I would like to thank Donnie Lamb bass player for The Street Punks for stepping up and getting these tracks re-released... Mary Monday was fun and knew how to give the crowd what they wanted. With her short crazy colored two toned short hair and her thigh high boots with a sexy leather bustier donned with lots of boa's she incorporated it all.. On occasion she would include the Infant Terribles the teen daughters of the fabulous Lady LaRue into her show... I was always hoping for duet with Lady LaRue and Mary.. But it never happened... Sadly neither of them are with us... Mary passed away in 1985 while Lady LaRue passed away a few years ago in New Mexico... Both of these performers were very underrated and lets hope that this record will bring some new attention to a true trooper Mary Monday...
