Let's Talk Punk
With
Actress Danielle Sandler
Interview By: Lisa/PunkrPrincess

Punk Globe: Hi Danielle thanks for chatting with us can you give us a little background of your acting career?

Danielle: Well, I’ve always had an interest in films and acting from a young age. My mom would always put on the classics for my brother and me when we were kids, and it was always important when the family would watch films together. It was a family ritual that had to be done, haha. As I got older, I took a class in high school that I loved. It was called “Page to Screen,” which was a class where we analyzed books that were adapted into films, and we got to write stories of our own and me loving reading and writing, this was a great fit for me. I also did a lot of acting in high school, always acting in plays and musicals, and singing in choir. I went to college at Towson University and graduated in 2012 with a degree in Electronic Media, and Film, which is just a fancy way to say editing and post production, haha, but I always wanted to create stories of my own in that type of creative direction. I took acting classes in college, but I honestly never thought I’d be in front of the camera, even though that was also something I desired and loved. I initially started acting in September 2017 when I was asked to act in a horror film called VOORHEES, and then the acting spark ignited from there, and I’ve been in a bunch of other films and projects since then, including some on Amazon Prime, YouTube, and even on the silver screen!

Punk Globe: I know you have some other projects going on including some stuff with my good friend Christopher Inlow can you tell us about them?

Danielle: Yeah, I definitely can! I love Christopher; he actually has been helping me get great acting opportunities, and helps me with connections and networking. He and I have done quite a few films together, and have more in the works, some of which include the thriller VOLKOV, which has already premiered in theaters, and will soon be released on Amazon Prime. It’s also been entered in a bunch of film festivals and has already won tons of awards on just the trailer alone. I also did another film with Christopher, a post apocalyptic short called “Beyond the Stretch,” where I play a post apocalyptic goon named Sotet. You can check out this short film on Amazon Prime! You can also check me out in the horror pilot, ”Supernatural Assassins,” where I play a Werewolf sister, which is on YouTube. I also recently participated in the 48 Hour Film Festival, where I acted in a short film called “Hanging with the Calverts!” This film premiered at the Creative Alliance in Baltimore. It is now available on YouTube! I also have entered the world of Slo Frank (a horror host portrayed by Christopher Inlow) where I play as one of his friends as Toodles Thyme, the sweet, little farmer girl country bumpkin! This is actually my most recent project because Christopher created a coloring book of Slo Frank and friends that features the band Faith No More. I appear in it as ToodlesThyme! And I really want to color in it, but I’m not allowed because my copy is from the first batch, so at this point it’s considered a collector’s item, which is made official because of the sticker number on the back. But I’m part of team CIE (Christopher Inlow Entertainment) and I am SO excited for the future projects and films coming out! Christopher and I also want to start a standup comedy show too at some point, which is really exciting because I do a lot of standup comedy in my spare time. Also, Geeks at the Beach is a convention coming up this month in Delaware, where I will be with Christopher as Toodles Thyme, where I’ll be doing face painting, giving autographs, and taking pictures with people! Also, one last thing, if you want to watch me kick some G.L.O.W. (Glamorous or Gorgeous Girls of Wrestling) pro wrestler’s ass, you can check me out on Celebrity Boxing. I had my first boxing match at the Showboat Hotel in Atlantic City, and I annihilated her, haha. I’ve been boxing for a little over 3 years now. So yeah, those are some of my projects!

Punk Globe: What has changed with you since you first started acting?

Danielle: This is a great question because a lot has changed. I would definitely have to say my work ethic. I’ve become more systematic and more disciplined. I always do what have to do, and act the role and do it right, whether it be big or small. Remember to always remain humble, not that haven’t, but always treat people with a great level of respect, because this industry is filled with drama (no pun intended, haha). I’ve definitely learned to act more professional and to keep a good reputation, but I’m seriously one of the nicest people ever, which can be good and bad, but I know how to keep my ground, and speak up when I need to.

Punk Globe: Tell us some of your favorite movies you have done.

Danielle: Let’s see here, well, even though so far I’ve acted in mostly horror, I really like to be diverse in my roles and not just confine myself to one genre, although I will act in another horror film. I just wanted to make that clear. I really liked acting in “Beyond the Stretch,” since it was a sci-fi post apocalyptic short, and I got to expand my horizons a bit and I got to wear war paint, and act more goofy and badass as usual. I really liked acting in VOLKOV as well, just because you got to see me as me, but with more of an attitude, and my role was more dramatic and down to earth at the same time. And I really love acting as Toodles Thyme (which you can see me appearing on “BANISTER BANTER” on YouTube) because I love being comedic and I love comedy. She is a totally different persona of mine. And she’s goofy, silly, and well, just simple in a sense. I also wanted to add my role in “Hanging with the Calverts!”  I really enjoyed this role as well because you get to see more of my comedic side. I prefer more comedic and dramatic roles.

Punk Globe: Who are some of your favorite actors?

Danielle: Hmmm, I really have a bunch of favorites, and forgive me if I’m missing major ones, I love Mel Brooks, Gene Wilder, Bill Murray, Keanu Reeves, Robert Downey Jr., Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks, Robin Williams, Samuel L. Jackson, Denzel Washington, Scarlett Johansson, Christian Bale, Adam Sandler, Harrison Ford, Robert De Niro, Jack Nicholson, Al Pacino, Julia Roberts, Chris Hemsworth, Ryan Reynolds, Elizabeth Banks, Paul Rudd, Danny Devito, Charlie Day, all the rest of the “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” cast, Dave Chapelle, Chris Pratt, Bruce Willis, Dustin Hoffman, Jim Carrey, Zach Galifianakis, Tim Heidecker, Eric Wareheim, Jason Mewes, Kevin Smith, just a bunch…I think I went through all of Hollywood, haha.

Punk Globe: What about music who are some of your favorite artists?

Danielle: This is an AWESOME question because I listen to many genres of music (including old school hip hop/rap, country, and LOVE classical music), but my most favorite is classic rock, baby. I love Whitesnake, Billy Squier, Elton John, Def Leppard, Van Halen, KISS, CAKE (I know that’s not classic rock, but I love them!), RATT, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Skid Row, Genesis, Electric Light Orchestra, man, I could go on for hours, but seriously, I just love the classics, Like Leo Sayer, The Bee Gees, Climax Blues Band, Golden Earring, Andy Gibb, Lou Rawls, The Pretenders, Morris Day and the Time, Fleetwood Mac, Bill Withers, ANYTHING OLD. THAT’S WHEN MUSIC WAS GOOD!!! I PROMISE!!! Oh yeah, also Casper HeyZeus. Give him a listen.

Punk Globe: Besides your busy acting career any other hobbies you enjoy doing?

Danielle: I love art and anything creative, I love going to museums, and I love going to operas (I have been to a bunch of operas, plays, musicals, etc.). I love horseback riding; I’ve been riding since I was 3 and competed in show jumping when I was a teen. I collect TONS of comic books, I love boxing, and working out. I love living a healthy lifestyle. And I love to read and write, I also love making jewelry, especially from clay. I love making pottery.  I love being outside too, especially when the weather is nice. I also really love cooking and baking! I also love going to karaoke! So much fun! And I’m always a big hit!

Punk Globe: Whats the hardest role you ever played, and why

Danielle: The hardest role I’ve ever played, hmmm, my role in VOORHEES. Constantly being covered in blood, and working outside in extreme weather conditions (blazing hot to below freezing) can really take a lot out of you.

Punk Globe: Tell us a fun fact about you that people might not be aware of.

Danielle: Oh maaaan, okay, I love watching pimple popping videos and ingrown toenail removal videos all while eating a bowl of cereal.

Punk Globe: In which area would you like to improve as an actor?

Danielle: As an actor, I would really like to be in more comedic roles, and be in more comedies. But as far as comedies are concerned, I would really like to work more on my improvisation and comedic timing, which I’m good at, but there is always room for improvement.

Punk Globe:  What have you learned from the directors that you have worked with throughout your career?

Danielle: I really admire their organizational skills, and the different ways that they work, and how encouraging they can be.

Punk Globe: What have you learned from your senior actors?

Danielle: This is a great question, I’ve learned that less is more, and never doubt yourself if you know you have the potential to do it, in other words, have more confidence, and always get the job done and do it correctly. Go above and beyond. And always be humble, but don’t write any checks your ass can’t cash.

Punk Globe:  What kind of roles do you prefer?

Danielle: This is an easy one! I prefer comedic, dramatic, and action roles.

Punk Globe: What has been your biggest achievement in the field of acting?

Danielle:  Well, I of course would love to win an Oscar someday, haha, but it’s neat to be in a film, that has won awards for just the trailer alone and has already been entered in a bunch of film festivals, including some nationally (Philadelphia and Los Angeles)  and internationally (Canada, UK, and Australia) The film I’m talking about is VOLKOV.

Punk Globe: What advice would you give to aspiring actors.

Danielle: Be humble, be professional, treat others the way you want to be treated, do your job correctly, and learn from others, it’s always good to learn because there is always room for improvement, and most importantly keep a good reputation.

Punk Globe: Any upcoming projects you want us to check out?

Danielle: I pretty much covered everything, but if you want to follow me on social media and get updates on upcoming projects, you can look me up on Facebook, my name is Danielle Sandler, you can find me on Instagram as well (Deenje), you can also follow me on Twitter, and look me up on IMDb!

Punk Globe: Anything else you want us to know about?

Danielle: Whoever owns the red Toyota in the parking lot behind me, your lights are on. Just thought I’d let you know.

Punk Globe: Thanks so much for the interview and thanks to all the readers out there.

Danielle: Thank you so much, Lisa for the interview, love you guys!
