The Sidewalk Initiative
Article by Pauley Perrette

Just wanted to let you know…

I am concerned about the inaccurate/insufficient news coverage of the council meetings concerning the homeless encampments.

One of the game changers in almost getting a unanimous vote was my “SIDEWALK INITIATIVE”.

I don’t care if I am EVER mentioned, that’s not the point, this is:

I am an advocate for the disabled community. Per FEDERAL ADA LAW, Los Angeles County and City are breaking, for real, THOUSANDS of federal laws every MINUTE by not keeping our sidewalks clean and clear for our differently abled brothers and sisters for YEARS now.

Every news cast only mentions the “anti camping law” being used, but it’s actually the ADA violations that Mitch O’Farrell brought up per me working with him and others on understanding and acknowledging Federal ADA law that started changing minds.

I am happy to speak to anyone to explain further so our news can report on this factually.

Everything I’m saying now is in all minutes and all writings regarding the ordinance clearing encampments from sidewalks.

The ADA clause is the very first one, out of several regulations, outlined in the Ordinance. After the ADA clause, all other regulations follow.

This is the Exact Wording in the ordinance, quoting our FEDERAL ADA Law:

“Section 41.18. Sitting, lying, or sleeping or storing, using, maintaining, or placing personal property in the public right-of-way.

(a) No person shall obstruct a street, sidewalk, or other public right-of-way:

(1) by sitting, lying, or sleeping, or by storing, using, maintaining, or placing personal property, in a manner that impedes passage, as provided by the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Pub. L, No. 101-336, 104 Stat. 328 (1990), as amended from time to time”.

We must get this right!

I am NOT litigious,

But if I were? We could launch a devastating federal lawsuit against the city and county of Los Angeles.

All of this information is easily accessed (unlike our sidewalks) by the actual ordinance and minutes from the council meetings.

No one is reporting about Federal ADA Law.

No one.

Joe Biden was the back bone of the current implementation of ADA Law. He would probably have something to say about this.

We must get this right

My friends are in their wheelchairs in oncoming traffic because they have no sidewalk access.

Thank you,

Pauley Perrette
