Live Show Review By: Gabriel Johns

What does one say about The Juvenile Wrecks?  That they’re a good band?  That they sound great?  That they’ve got a thing going on about them that draws you in if you love rock n roll?  Well, fuck yeah to all of the above!  There’s nothing like a live set from our boys, The Juvenile Wrecks!

It was a hot Friday night at The Redwood and the crowd needed some ballsy rock n roll to get their angst out!  The JW’s opened with “Chasin’”, a rocker followed by “Think Twice”, very Brit sounding rocker, just too cool.  Great vocals by Alan MP, guitars, vocals with backups vocals by Jay Tea, also guitar, vocals and Nigel Mogg, bass and vocals.  And Shaun Bryant knows how to keep the lads in line on the drums!  The JW’s kept the crowd moving with  “Don’t Fade Away” and “One Shot”.  This next tearjerker rocker really got me “You Think She’s Yours”, I really dig this Stonsey country rock ballad! You just want to drown your sorrows.  The boys were doing an excellent job serving excellent pub rock and the crowd sopped it up!!

“Ballad Junkies” was next on their list as the band joked with the crowd.  Such charmers these fine four gents each with great humor!  Followed by another great song “Go Go Dancer”.  Man, the crowd moved to this one.  Especially at the end when they picked up the song in double time!  Shaun Bryant, drummer, wrangled in the crowd with his street edge drumming!!!!  WOO HOO!!!!  All Hearts were racing along with their raucous, street fighting sound!!

Thy ended their set with “Voices In Your Head” and all I could think is this can’t be their last song!  I was so enjoying myself!  They couldn’t leave us like that, grasping for more!  But like the good boys they are they gave us not one, but two more songs!  “Staring At The Rude Boys”, a Clash sounding rocker and ending with “Silly Thing”!  Thank you for not leaving the crowd hanging, we did want more but they gave what they had and we were glad for it!

The sound that comes from these four gentlemen brings you to the streets of London, the raw and the restless “where can I put the boot in” tension that pours out from two guitars, bass and drums!  Alan MP has an almost MC5 dress code and slings his Gibson righteously while playing out riffs and singing wholeheartedly!!  You’ve got Jay Tea, guitar, vocals, doing the same but somehow they don’t get in each other’s way but rather compliment one another naturally, they know what they’re doing and they do it quite well!  Whoa, our boy Nigel Mogg, bass, the stylishly handsome one, slams his bass beat against our heads as if to say “this is who I am . . . remember me!” with urgent command.   Let’s not forgot the school boy charm of Shaun Bryant, drums, banging the skins with the force of sonic rhythm that keeps your toes tapping, fingers snapping until numb in a rock and roll frenzy!

Yeah, The Juvenile Wrecks really know how to serve pub rock ala Brit rock straight up and their shows always satisfy a crowd on any given night.  Keep track of these lads as they are on the up and coming!  They just came off their England tour where I’ve heard got some excellent notoriety.  I’m looking forward to seeing The Juvenile Wrecks moving in an upwardly mobile direction!  Do yourself a favor, see them in a small club as you may not be able to later.  Yeah, they’re that kind of band.
