The Story Of Sin
Arrow Films/MVD
Blu-ray Review By: Jaime Pina

This 1975 film by director Walerian Borowczyk was his only feature length film shot in his native Poland. It is an interesting film and like all of Borowczyk’s films it is incredibly beautiful to look at. After making some films with a high level of sexual content and gaining a reputation as a director who made sex films that were offbeat and often brilliantly made and beautifully shot, Borowczyk returned to his native land to make this drama that was at the time Poland’s most sexually explicit feature.

A lovely young lady is seen being warned in confession to be wary of impure thoughts and the presence of people who cause her to have impure thoughts. Her family takes on a handsome male border and the two have an affair. The man is married and promises to get a divorce but due to the church it is difficult. As he leaves to pursue a divorce she goes through many tragedies and her pursuit of her lover ends badly.

Arrow has presented the film in a gorgeous print with loads of extras in an attractive two-disc set. Included are Borowczyk’s early short films Once Upon A Time, Dom and The School and a collector’s booklet.
