The Fake President
Article By: Susan Surftone

The numbers tell the story. The president with no political mandate is making sweeping changes to our government, our society and the world order as the Republican Congress enables him instead of checking him. With our nonsensical Electoral College used as the method by which the most powerful person in the world is elected, Trump barely squeaked through. He’ll tout his great victory but the numbers, all but forgotten, speak clearly. He won Michigan by 0.2 percent (10,704 votes), Pennsylvania by 0.7 percent (46,765 votes) and Wisconsin by 0.8 percent (46,765 votes). A total of 79,646 votes in these three states put him in office. She beat him by almost 3 million votes in the popular election. We all know that, but we must ignore it under our system of electing a president while he aligns us with autocrats, alienates our long-standing allies, starts trade wars and kneels to Putin. Paul McCartney, Tina Turner, U2, Bruce Springsteen, Queen, Michael Jackson, The Rolling Stones, Madonna and Frank Sinatra all beat that number by a lot at only one of their concerts. James Clapper, former director of national intelligence, in his book, “Facts and Fears” tells us that Russia did affect the outcome. They swung the election to Trump. He told the same to Rachel Maddow during an interview on her MSNBC nightly show. Look at the numbers and you know he’s credible.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller and his team work diligently and silently on an investigation into the collusion of the Trump campaign with the Russians to steal the 2016 Presidential election from Hillary Clinton and as speculation moves much closer to fact, Trump and his tv mouthpiece Rudy Giuliani holler louder denouncing the investigation as a witch hunt. Paul Manafort, former Trump campaign manager and his longtime associate with links to Russian intelligence, Konstantin Killimnik, are indicted in federal court by Mueller. Federal indictments are not witch hunts. The obstruction of justice case Mueller and team have built against Trump is strong. Any Democratic president would be facing impeachment right now by any Congress, Democrat or Republican, under the same set of facts.

The minority president with no mandate to govern continues to divide us with thinly veiled racial attacks on NFL football players who kneel during the National Anthem at games in protest at the way black Americans are still treated in this country in the 21st century. The Supreme Court sides with the cake baker against the LGBTQ community in a nonsense 7-2 ruling to avoid taking a stand that might offend the bigot in chief. Children are taken from their parents at our border to force the Congressional Democrats to build a wall and buckle under to the draconian immigration policy the Republicans have long dreamed about. Under the thumb of a president with no mandate we are transformed from a beacon of liberty to ugly Americans at lighting speed.

Michael Avenatti takes his client’s, Stormy Daniels, case against Michael Cohen, Trump’s fixer, to the airwaves to fight in that all-important court of public opinion. Trump’s carnival barker, Rudy Giuliani makes a fool of himself by hurling insults at Ms. Daniels who has more courage than any Congressional Republican. Attorney Avenatti bravely takes the heat and continues to fight in that court of public opinion where Special Counsel Robert Mueller cannot go.

We heard how Trump would become presidential once he took office. It didn’t happen. We heard how the Republican Congress would check him. It didn’t happen. We heard how Trump would be controlled through the adult supervision of grown up White House staff. It didn’t happen. Now we wait for the Blue Wave in the November midterms that will bring in a Democratic House to impeach Trump. We also need a Senate that will convict. An acquitted Trump will only be vindicated to himself and his minority base. We need a strong Democratic Congress to make certain Mike Pence is nothing but a seat warmer in the Oval office until he’s thrown out in 2020 should he become president after Donald Trump’s removal from office.

Any election is a game of numbers and the Republicans are masters of voter suppression. There are allegations the Russians may have tampered with voter registration rolls to suppress the vote in 2016. In this country the minorities, black, Hispanic, LGBTQ, progressive white voters and so forth, constitute a coalition of the majority and that is what strikes fear in the heart Trump’s Republicans. As California has shown, they cannot win if these minorities come out in strength to vote against them. Trump’s Republicans will pull every dirty trick they can and befriend foreign counties with interests opposed to our own and the free world to win as they did in 2016. The way to beat them is simple. Vote in November. Yes, you hear it all the time but this is the most important election of your life.
