There's just over FOUR HOURS of Ramones on this double DVD. It's
split between, what some would call, the 'Original and Best'
line-up on disc one, and the various incarnations following the parting of Tommy Ramone,
on disc two. That's not to put a downer on the other line-up's, as we all
know, they seriously are THE greatest Band In The World, bar
none!, but the original Ramones, Joey, Tommy, Dee Dee and Johnny,
were the one's that started the whole thing with the look and
sound...what we all know as punk today, stems from what they did
back in 1974!
The first disc, carries takes from their early shows at
CBGB and
some very rare footage of the band playing the upstairs at max's
kansas city. They weren't the tightest of bands back then, they were
learning and creating, but the sheer excitement and power-presecence
is simply mind-blowing!
The highlight of this DVD package has to be the New Year's Eve
show at the Roundhouse in London, 1977. This recording was captured
on vinyl [hey! whats that grandad?] and released as
'It's Alive', THE DEFINITIVE punk
album of all time!
To watch them thrashing out
the tunes is unbelievable.
Disc two brings the various line-ups,
thundering through the 1980's and 90's, from small time shows on Top
Of The Pop's to Argentinian Arenas, and thousands of manic fans. The
DVD set delivers exactly what it says on the tin...4 hours of
Ramones, pure and classy.
Its one of those for your
collection, but just like the original 'It's Alive' I bought back in
1978, will be thoroughly played and enjoyed, over and over again!!
