Bumbershoot and Speakeasy..

By Miss Oblivious

This activity started the morning that Kimmy & Bruce departed on their plane to the golden state! In fact the Cap'n drove them to the airport while, Darby and I hopped on a bus for Bumbershoot! Thanks to Armitage Shanks for Darb's pass into this entertainment extravaganza! Thank you IHR for my photo pass!

Cancan Castaways were performing early, and we needed to be seated in a prime location!  Chuk, a friend that I had lost contact with 5 years ago was in town with VAU DE VIRE SOCIETY setting up stage and probumpercastaways.jpg image by missoblivious55ps for their daily bumbershoot performances.

Chuk was an important figure in my life 15 years ago, so it was a much-anticipated reunion! We first met while in the line to potty at a Crash Worship show, we soon became pen pals we lived about 40 minutes from each other, and before we knew it we were a big happy family!

Gogol Bordello was my third ammo for my first attendance at this NW umbrella-influenced fest! I photographed the IHR booth for the next zine and website! The highlight came unexpected by the creative structures of "Cyclecide"! These clown`rodeo` punks know how to make use of bicycles!

Carnival rides all powered and built from bicycle parts! It was a sure treat!!

Angelo from Fishbone was the MC for VAU DE VIRE SOCIETY stage, and the Castaways were performing havoc and cabaret skills on an audience of about 1,000 onlookers! Way to go Castaways!

J9 and I walked Darby to Dicks so she could go home. Her brother was happy to see her! Plus, It was Miss O time now! J9 veered me to a lovely bloody Mary est. and we grabbed some tummy delights!

It sucks that Vau De Vire performed the same time, as my eastern European heartthrob, and too bad that I don't like packed in crowds! I stood behind the Gogol Stage and watched! What an energetic man Eugene is! Making my heart skip a beat! Chuk was finished performing and joined me half way through the set for some dancing! We departed; J9 and I were on a mission to get up to the speakeasy were Gogol was rumored to be performing after hours!  We made a pit stop and drank a red bull at the Funhouse then hailed a cab to caravan us up to the land of Hipsters "Capitol Hill"!

The Comet was soggy and the ChaCha had warmth! Jerome, Mackenzy and Claire! Plus the basement of dim delights!

Sasha found us and we found our destination! Only high-class uniforms allowed past the door!

The mystical warehouse led each of us into another room! It was to my delight that I bumped right into my shimmy deluxe girls! We seemed to be one of the first guests to arrive, until we ordered a drink and was advised to walk around the tunnel and boom like a scene out of a 1930's Bugsy flick the room was filled with strategically clothed woman and suited up fellas! Boom there was one of my favorite local groups "The Bad Things", warming up to play! What a delight!

There are benches & sofas lined up nearly to the ceiling and I decided it was time to have some desired hooch!

Dancing prevailed with the first sound of "Jimmy the pickpocket" accordion and the risqué thighs and siren voice of Funi La Fantastica". The delinquent partners such as Lord Kamke', Mad Wilcox, Captain Panto & Stanislov the Gypsy make this a complete dustbowl apparition with a sideshow stance!  Woman dancing, men cheering it was soon to be interrupted with a 20 minute break in which we were directed to venture through another tunnel into a room filled with a naughty duo from Canada. Lead into burlesque performances from Shimmy Deluxe! Belle Cozzette, Doppelganger and many others were in attendance! Since I was voyager en passenger I was summoned to depart this pendant le sommeil.

Cheers til next time E'den?.
