Punk Globe - About Us

When Punk first hit SF, there was only one zine that covered the scene and that was "Search and Destroy". As good as it was, it could not cover the entire scene and I wanted to start a zine that covered more than just music. Thus, Punk Globe became a reality. It was printed monthly and became an instant hit..

The first issue Punk Globe was printed in 1977 in Xerox style and continued in that format for the first year. It would be celebrating its 1-Year Anniversary and Chris Coyle, Manager for SVT, suggested going into News Print. We found Grant Printing in China Town for the following 7 years. For our last 2 years, the Magazine upgraded to heavier stock white paper printed at SF Litho..

The content of the Punk Globe was a Calendar of Events, Gossip, Interviews, Record Reviews, Photo, Artwork, Punk Of the Month Award and the hilarious "Ask Sonny Bono." The magazine was lighthearted and a lot of fun... It became a hit and in the last few years there was 25,000 being printed.

The Punk Globe also had its Celebrity Contributors: Bebe Buell was Associate editor and writer, Jello Biafra wrote Record Reviews under the name The Taste Police and Dorothy Lyman, R. Crumb, Liz Derringer, Joe Jackson, Jonathan Gries, Lisa Zane, Matt Dillon, Ernie Townsend, Andrew Stevens and Judd Nelson provided Artwork and Photos.

After reacquainting myself with the wonderful Tammy Adin over the past year, I decided to do an online version of Punk Globe. We will be updating content with new current content. We also will be posting old articles, ads, artwork, photos and letters from past Punk Globe issues. I hope you enjoy our work and will welcome the new staff.
