Tremors
Arrow Films/MVD
Blu-ray Review By: Jaime Pina

I remember looking over a press kit for this film shortly before its release and thinking it was a joke. The cast list looked like an episode of The Love Boat with film actors, TV actors and even a country and western singer! Going to the theatre with some trepidation I was pleasantly surprised when Tremors turned out to be a winner all across the board with excellent direction and photography, a well-done script, some great monsters and yes, an amazing cast.

Val (Kevin Bacon) and Earl (Fred Ward) are a couple of well-meaning jacks-of-all-trades looking to broaden their horizons by leaving the small town of Perfection, Nevada. As they try to leave, they keep getting distracted by discovering some weird stuff and some dead bodies. With the help of a seismology student, they discover that giant worms are coming up from the desert sand, grabbing humans and eating them. Working with other locals including a kick ass, survivalist couple (Michael Gross and Reba McEntire) they head to the roof and try to figure out a way to escape since the phone lines are down and they are totally isolated. The story unfolds with some clever sequences, dark humor and a great ensemble cast also including Victor Wong and Bibi Besch.

This limited-edition release from Arrow does the film justice. The film launched a franchise and has a rabid fanbase and this Blu-ray set will delight them to no end. Disc 1 has the theatrical release with the picture and sound capturing all its bright desert beauty and the extras include commentaries, documentaries, interviews, trailers and more. Disc 2 has more interviews, outtakes and three short films by the Tremors creators.
